..17--"Rog North Western Traffic Commissioner Beverley If Bell has warned Ashton-in-Makerfield-based AR Hodgson (Steels) that its licence is at serious risk of revocation.
The company, which holds a restricted licence for five vehicles and one trailer, had been called before the TC because of concern over maintenance, finance and the way It was being run.
Vehicle examiner Paul Harrison said that in the past five years two immediate and seven delayed prohibitions had been issued to the company's vehicles. He had carried out a maintenance investigation in March after the Issue of an immediate prohibition showing a serious lapse in maintenance. This was a result of the vehicle rolling back from the test site when the handbrake was applied. He arranged to examine two vehicles and issued two delayed prohibitions.
No inspection records could be produced for the period May-November 1999 and he was told that they had not been passed on by the then maintenance contractor.
For the company, Sam Green said it had changed maintenance contractors three times because of dissatisfaction with their work.
Director Anthony Hodgson said he thought the drivers had been lazy in reporting defects. He intended to hold weekly meetings with the transport staff.
The TC pointed out that the maintenance agreement was made in the name of Flexitrack, trading as Olympic Cladding, and she had doubts about whether All Hodgson (Steels) had enough money to maintain its vehicles.
Adjourning the hearing so proper financial statements could be provided, the IC said she wanted to investigate the finance in great detail as some of the bank statements produced were in the name of the associated Coilcolour. She also felt that Hodgson needed to consider whether he wanted to make an 0-licence application in the name of Flexitrack.
