Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

HGV registrations fell 5.7% to 4,155, but Scania registered a 64% increase compared with May 1999. Its year-to-date sales are up 714 to 2,839.

Other manufacturers recorded minor fluctuations in sales; the bulk of the 5.7% drop is accounted for by falls in most of the two-axle rigid sectors. Three-axle artic registrations also fell for the first time since September 1998. Overall, May figures show the industry has increased 6% over last year.

There has also been a surge in sales in the 1.8-3.5-tonne panel van sector with 1,000 more vehicles being sold.

• A report released by CAP Motor Research claims that choice in the truck market could disappear. It says major manufacturers are swallowing up smaller companies and moving towards badge engineering Instead of keeping traditional vehicle identity.
