The acid test

• United Transport Tankers has won a £1.5 million, three-year contract to transport hydrochloric acid for ICI. Each year, 50,000 tonnes of the acid will be transported in eight rubberlined tankers from Clayton Commercials.

New line

• This summer's annual shutdown at Iveco Ford's Langley plant has been extended to four weeks to allow the installation of an assembly line for an, as yet unidentified, Iveco model backed by a £17.7 million investment.

Road profits

Ill Transport minister Peter Bottomley told MPs in the Commons last week: "Each pound spent on the roads brings a £2 return and we are getting a return of about £160 million per year from the present road programme in road casualty reductions alone."
