• Yorkshire Rider has proposed an £11 million guided busway system for east and south Leeds as an alternative to West Yorkshire PTE's favoured 236 million light rail system, and the city council's proposed 200 million full-scale segregated rail system.
Yorkshire Rider says fitting guide wheels would enable buses to take less road space. But West Midlands PTE had to abandon its guided busway because of problems with nonguideway-fitted tendered services after the 1.985 Act came into force.
Mannheim, West Germany has approved a guided busway scheme despite a local campaign for tramway extension instead. Daimler-Benz's bus production works is in the area.
