• Stoneguard 2000, a selfadhesive polyurethane film developed by Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire-based Fasson as a stone protection for vehicles, has now been approved by the Ministry of Defence, RAF Farnborough and Westland for use on Lynx, Puma and Sea King helicopters.
Since the tip of a rotor blade travels at a velocity just below the speed of sound, says Fasson, the particles which collide with it have extremely high energy. To protect against erosion, a covering of highly resilient material is required.
The film can be over-painted with most types of oven-dried automotive paints.
