ROAD Haulage Association director-general Freddie Plaskett has added his voice to the condemnation of the Department of Transport's alleged reduction of enforcement officers mileage allowances (CM, June 22).
This follows an incident in which an operator was served with a prohibition on an overloaded lorry and was told he would need to wait a week to have it cleared after an enforcement officer had used up his weekly mileage quota.
On that occasion, sufficient allowance was brought forward from the next week's allowance to help the officer, but Mr Plaskett has told the DTp that it would be impossible to do this all the time.
