EUROPEAN truck manufacturers are responding to the urgent need for famine relief vehicles to be sent to Africa, and Leyland has just shipped out 60 vehicles to he used by the Save the Children Fund.

The Leylands, worth about Lim, were shipped from Southampton last Sunday, only 12 days after the order was announced.

And Mercedes-Benz UK is supplying 15 lorries through the Band Aid relief project. Four 11-tonne four-wheel drive vehicles with bodies built by Buckinghamshirebased Reynolds Boughton have already been shipped. Mercedes agents in Africa are geared up to provide spares and service back-up.
