GAY FENN-SMITH takes over next week as executive chairman of the United Transport Company, the holding company for the British Electric Traction group's British and European transport interests.
Mr Fenn-Smith, who also joins the board of United Transport International, was managing director of another BET group, Advance Services, the commercial laundry and cleaning service.
He succeeds Vic Martin, who has retired at his own request.
Mr Fenn-Smith's initial career was in the army and civil service, and he then worked with Powell Duffryn, British Petroleum and Boustead International, before joining Advance in 1979.
