Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

14IGH-PRE. SSURE cleaning equipment,

known as the Atumat and developed by Metering Pumps, 21 The Mall, London, W.5, in conjunction with Oskar Maasberg, Duisburg, Germany, is designed to remove dirt and scale from pipelines, tanks and other surfaces. It is said to be particularly effective in the cleaning of sewers and is produced in four forms, including a version that is mounted on a Thames Trader chassis.

The Atumat delivers water at high pressure through a multi-jet nozzle. Water is drawn from the mains, or from a tank, and is forced out at a pressure of 1,000 p.s.i. through a long hose fitted with a special nozzle which sprays the water backwards, thus propelling the hose forward through the pipe being cleaned. A second scouring of the pipe results when the hose is drawn back. As the hose can generally be intro duced into a sewer or pipe from ground level, it makes the dirty and dangerous job of climbing into a manhole shaft unnecessary. A high-pressure spray gun can be used with the equipment for other cleaning work, and hot water and detergent solutions can also be handled.
