LIGHT-ALLOY plank sections that snap together edge-to-edge to form a continuous flat surface have been introduced by Alcan Industries, Ltd„ Banbury, Oxfordshire. They are part of what is called the Noralok system and are designed primarily for the construction of road vehicle bodies.
Noralok requires a minimum of labour to assemble since the planks can be joined by using a block of wood and a mallet. the resultant joint being weathertight and strong enough to withstand all normal loads, without the need for adhesives or other supplementary fixing, Capping sections incorporating the Noralok joint give a neat finish to the top and bottom edges of such things as tail boards and body sides, whilst the ends are covered by a channel section secured by riveting or bolting. No other riveting or bolting is needed except to • attach fittings such as hinges.
The sections are made from Noral B51SWO (HE3OWP) aluminium alloy. Each plank has a width of 10 in. and an effective width when assembled of 9 in. Any number of planks can be joined together to form one assembly and it is said that dismantling is also relatively easy.
