R.H.A. Area Chair"T 'HE chairman of the Devon man Gives Strong 1 and Copnwall Area of R.H.A., Mr. J. R. F. Bradford, has pointed out that, quite apart from the members' individual political creeds, the issue of nationalization is one which is going to affect everyone. As Devon and Cornwall have as large a proportion of owner-drivers and small operators as anywhere else in the country, this question concerns that area as much as, or more than, others. and it is useless to ignore the position. He therefore urges all members to attend their local sub-area meetings, so that they can have knowledge of the

How Palestine Buses THE Hanaavia Company, of

Are Kept in Active Palestine, has a Leyland Service Titan which is nearly 10 years

old. During the whole of 1944 the only new parts fitted to this were sparking plugs. Actually, however, it is operating with locally manufactured pistons, radiator and the shell for the latter. Another fairly recent addition is a Bendix-White vacuum booster for the brakes, Possible Effective Use QOME useful hints regarding

of Those Stored '--/batteries from laidup

Batteries vehicles have reached us from the Chloride Electrical Storage Co., Ltd., the Exide products of Which are so well known. Such batteries fall into four categories:— , (a) Those which have received periodical charges. These should be fit for further service without special treatment. (b) Examples which have received a continuous trickle charge for the whole period. If, the period has been long, the charging will probably have had an adverse effect on the positive plates, and although they may function for some time, their mechanical strength will be much reduced. (c) Those from which the electrolyte was withdrawn and replaced by clean, pure water in which the plates have been kept fully immersed. It is quite probable. in such cases that if the water be poured off and replaced‘by sulphuric acid of 1-.350 s.p.g. and a prolonged charge be given, they will give further good service. (d) Those which were left to take their heir

chance, without even a complete charge. Little hope can be held out of satisfactory service from these after two or three years' stagnation, even if they be subjected to treatment by one or other of those various " reviyers " or dopes which may crop up again, and the value of which does not appear to justify their purchase.
