For a company that few in Europe had heard of a decade ago. the Indian company is rapidly becoming a significant global force. Its presence was strengthened in March when it acquired the Korean Daewoo Commercial Vehicle Co, not to be confused with Daewoo Avia which builds trucks in the Czech Republic.
Its newest product is an electronically controlled Euro-3 engine, complete with Bosch common-rail injection and Jake brake. While unlikely to have any significant effect on European operators. the new model does present a threat to the ambitions of various Western truck manufacturers who are bidding for a share of expanding markets further east. India, Africa and the Middle East are known to feature in Tata Daewoo's export plans.
