Fifteen were of a design new to the company, being rear-engined with low-step, frontentrance construction. The vehicles had been favourably received by passengers and staff alike.
The company still suffered a shortage of staff—drivers and conductors in particular —and this was accentuated when restricted labour practices were applied, added Mr. Beddow. But he was pleased to report that some progress had been made towards the removal of some of the restrictions which had grown up over the years.
