IN VIEW of the interest taken in the removal of refuse by electric wagons as compared with horse-drawn wagons, the-cleansing,' superintendeut of the Blackpool Corporation (Mr. James Bee) has had a comparative statement prepared, showing' the cost of a week's work carried out by each type. Both the Laffly and Karrier motor sweeping "machines now in seri-ice have rendered excellent assistance in the work of street cleansing, when conditions have made it possible for them to be employed with advantage. During the year the Laffly machine was at work for 685 hours sweeping, and 147 hours assisting in washing streets. The cost of street sweeping by means of this machine works out at about 68. per 1,000 sq. yards.
