I WRITE REGARDING John Biggin's complaint about computer games (CM 8 January). What planet is he from? It's clearly not planet earth!

When I was a teenager I had a fully licensed 12-gauge shotgun. but this did not make me a danger. The simple reason being, that I was taught to respect both the gun and other people.! still do, and I respect my father even more because he taught me well How many other things does Mr Biggin want banned? Should we ban matches because people have been burned by playing with them or personal stereos because some people play them too loud and damage their hearing?

How about banning all competitive sports, as this is bound to make our children try to outdo everyone else?

Of course not! We can only prevent our children from doing antisocial things by teaching them well.No computer game should alter the behaviour of a child if that child learns to be tolerant and well behaved in the first place.

Children are not naturally bad: naughty at times I agree. but not badlhey have to learn from us, their parents. and not from some governmental decree. Banning one thing leads to more, and it gets out of control too quickly.

Before you ask, yes, I am a parent and! do fear for my child's welfare and behaviour. I have also been a victim of car crime on more than one occasion and! suspect that the people involved hadn't been playing Grand Theft Auto before embarking on their crime spree.
