EVERYTHING possible is being done to eradicate the "them and us" attitude in the NFC. The theme of the report to the shareholders for the eight months to October 2 is partnership. Redundancy in a business owned by the staff is a particularly delicate and painful matter. Some was unavoidable in the closure of National Carriers' unprofitable retail division but the process was completed as humanely as possible. No favour was — or ever will be — shown to shareholdind employees.
In fact, the staff wastage of 400 a month before the consortium was created fell to 100 and, despite the national trend to the contrary, about 50 new employees a month are now being taken on. They have the first chance to buy when shares are on offer and would be foolish not to take it.
