This and allied queries have been repeatedly dealt with in this series of articles. Obviously, the economic operation of commercial vehicles requires many years of experience to achieve, but on the crucial question of vehicle replacement the short answer is that the ideal economic period over which a particular vehicle may be operated is dependent on several factors, not all of which are directly related to the vehicle itself. Accordingly, no standard or specific figure in terms of either time or mileage can be given which would be applicable in all circumstances.
