Sleeve Fitting Tool I NTRODUCED by Baumann Electric Ltd. is a new tool, the Type D, for fitting sleeves and cable markers to wires and cables. This light tool has interchangeable prongs which cover the whole range of sleeve sizes. It also has built-in " stops " to control the opening of the sleeve.

The tool, is supplied in a kit which comprises the tool body, three sets of prongs, an Allen key for changing the prongs and a small bottle of lubricant.

Cutting-off Machine AN abrasive wheel cutting-off machine. Model 0/10/AK, is now being made by A, and S. Osmond Ltd. it is claimed to be able to handle one-off jobs and long production runs with equal ease. This model is a combination of two Osmond machines and the main features of each have been combined to produce a reliable, high-speed cutting-off machine for universal use.

This unit will take 16to20-in.-dia. abrasive wheels for dry cutting of ferrous and non-ferrous bars, angles, tubes, flats and squares. Maximum cutting capacities are 6-in.-dia. tube, 24-in.-dia. solid steel bar, 4-in, channel and 4-in. by 4-in, by steel angle.

The machine is claimed to be able to cut solid steel bar in about 8 see. and 21-in. by 24-in, by ;vim angle in about 7 sec. The cutting wheel is brought into contact with the work by means of a hand-operated lever. Peripheral speeds of the abrasive wheels are adjusted to suit the size of wheel to be used.

The unit consists of a cast-iron table provided with tee slots for bolting down special fixtures and for rapid -positioning of work clamps. The table is mounted on a, cast-iron machine tool-type cabinet with tool cupboard. A 4-in.-dia. dust outlet at the rear is connected to the underside of the wheel slot in the table and there is another outlet behind the wheel. The mild steel rocking frame has an adjustable stop for limiting the downward movement of the cutting wheel. The machine is powered by a 10 h.p. electric motor; it is wired for 400/440 V. 3-phase, 50 cycles supply. Where angle cutting is required to be done frequently. the top of the machine, including the tee-slotted table, can be supplied to swivel.

Floor area occupied by the unit is I ft. 10 in. by 2 ft. 2 in., excluding overhanging portions of the frame.

Tyre Inflator THE price of the tyre inflator, described on page 36 of last week's issue of The Commercial Motor, has now been made known. Made by Welding Equipment Service Co. Ltd., it costs f12 10s. Adhesive-backed Rubazote mOW being marketed by Expanded Rubber and Plastics Ltd.

is a range of expanded rubber, called Rubazote, available with an adhesive backing protected by a quick release covering. This new backing is designed to .provide a convenient method of locating the material which is used as a sealing strip or in the form of punched gaskets. It can also be used to seat draughts, as a seal for cabinets and as a base for moulded plastics which will not slip or scratch.

The material must he applied to a completely dry; greasefree surface: it is not suitable for use in very wet conditions.

Coils of adhesive-backed Rubazote can be supplied in widths of up to 2 in. and in lengths of from 18 to 50 ft., depending on thickness. When supplied more than 2 in. wide it is available only in lengths of about 3 ft.

Tyre Breakdown Service THE National Tyre Distributors' Association has recently issued to all its members copies of the 1965 Breakdown Booklet. These are issued by Association members to their customers so that they have information available to enable them to call upon any Association member at any time, wherever they might be, regarding any tyre failure.

This latest issue of the booklet lists the names of 950 depots and covers 383 towns in the U.K.; 603 of these depots otter a night service, It is understood that to date more than 103,000 of the booklets have been issued to members, compared with 87,000 of the 1964 issue distributed. The scheme is claimed to be the most comprehensive of its kind in the country and any operator wishing to obtain more details of this and of the Association's fleet service scheme should ,contact his nearest N.T.D.A. member, or the secretary of the Association.
