Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

RETURNING a verdict of accidental death on two people killed in a bus accident at Hyde Park Corner, London, last month, the jury, at the inquest last week, added a rider that the bolt of the drag link in the steering should be fitted vertically, and should be examined by an authorized person to ensure that this was done.

Mr. S. W. Cook, the driver of the bus, said that when he turned the corner into Knightsbridge the steering locked. Insp. L. McKay, of the Public Carriage Office, said he had examined the bus and found that the bolt on the rear end of the drag link was horizontal. It had obviously fouled the

casing of an oil bath a number of times. It was his opinion that the bolt impinged on the oil-bath casing when

the bus was on a left lock and heeling over, and resulted in the steering jamming. Mr. H. G. Shave, north-eastern divisional engineer, London Transport Executive, believed there was no mechanical defect. He said that the bolt had been altered from the hori

zontal to the vertical position in 1952. In his opinion the bolt had nothing to do with the accident.

A spokesman for London Transport said, after the inquest, that the jury's recommendation would receive careful consideration.
