GLASGOW Town Council, by a majority, agreed on January 21 to the transport committee's recommendation regarding the allocation of the contracts for 100 double-deck buses. The committee recommended the purchase of 50 Leyland chassis, 25 A.E.C.' chassis, and 25 Daimlers, and 50 Cowieson and 50 M.C.W. bodies.
An amendment that the Leyland order be reduced and that 25 Gardnerengined Albion chassis be bought, received 13 votes, a further amendment that the entire contract should go to the Leyland company receiving 17 votes. The committee's recommendation was supported by 49 members.
A deputation from the National Union of Vehicle Builders asked that F. D Cowieson and Co. should receive the whole order, but the committee's recommendation was approved by 42 votes to 31, six members refusing to vote.
The total value of the contracts is £178,168.
SCOTTISH OPERATOR WARNED.
WARNING to Mr. George Scott (Rover Travel Service), Aberdeen, was given, on Monday, by the Northern Scotland Traffic Commissioners. They noted for future reference allegations of undercutting in contract work, and informed Mr. Scott of the consequences of operating unauthorized tours. No application for short-term licences, they added, would be considered without reasonable notice being given to the Commissioners.
