• Proposals by Lothian Regional Council to ban lorries over 7.5 tonnes From Edinburgh's Royal Mile have been quashed by the Scottish Court of Session because it failed to hold a public hearing. The council wanted to impose a ban from 10:30 to 16:00hrs on the busy section oF the city centre to encourage more tourists into the bars and restaurants. The traffic order was made in March 1995 to come into effect in June that year. However, following protests by local hauliers, the Freight
Transport Association advised the council that a public hearing should have been held. Despite the council disagreeing with the FTA the Court of Session ruled against the ban.
