According to the SMMT's senior technical manager Peter Slaughter: "The information we received was that 8,000-10,000 vehicles had a problem at the turn of the year, although it's reducing as vehicles are retrofitted." The number varies dramatically from manufacturer to manufacturer. ERF has to retrofit less than 30 chassis while Scania says its numbers could be as high as 700. MAN reports it has "between 400-500" and Leyland DoE says:" It could be as much as a thousand and we still can't get cables." Iveco Ford says the number runs into "the hundreds"
