AN ALUMINIUM container made by Davidsons (Coachbuilders) Ltd., Liverpool, which can be transformed into a self-contained mini-exhibition hall has been completed for Translode Units, Ltd., of Liverpool.
The Translode Exhibition Unit, which from the outside appears to be a normal ISO 30ft by 8ft by 8ft unit, doubles its width when the sides slide outwards and provides a series of up to eight display cubicles.
Included in the display unit is a reception area incorporating a cocktail bar, a builtin transistorized circuit for lighting and 13amp power plugs which can be used for British or Continental voltages.
Each cubicle—made of waterproof plywood—is fitted with fluorescent lighting and can hold up to two tons of goods. The one-piece roof is made of fibreglass and the rear-opening doors can be locked and sealed by customs officials.
The unit is designed for use on a trailer— the one on show in Liverpool last week was the normal Bodert skeletal trailer for a 30ft ISO container—and for carrying on roll-on/roll-off ferries rather than lifting. Translode Units claim it is the first of its kind in the world. It will be hired either to individual firms or a group of companies who want to exhibit in the same country, and it will be possible for group tours to be sponsored by local organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce so that participants may obtain a Board of Trade grant and receive the benefits of the publicity services of British Embassies.
It is claimed that the container can be opened and ready for its first visitor within 12 minutes of parking.
