ON Monday more than 40.000 vehicles of the Road Haulage Executive, together with the goods they carry, will be brought under a national insurance scheme.

SIMILAR in styling to the vehicles supplied a few months ago, 125 double-deck 54-seaters are to be delivered to Birmingham Transport Department by Crossley Motors. Ltd., Stockport. The new frontal appearance was conceived by the department's engineers and produced by Crossley coichwork designers.

Liverpool Transport Department has ordered 50 Crossley 56 seater doubledeckers with all-metal bodies.

HIGHER PAY FOR CLERKS

FOLLOWINCT the increase in pay for women in engineering, announced last week, clerks in the engineering industry are to receive higher wages as from January I. Men are to be paid 10s. mote and women 7s. 6d. Juniors are also to receive proportionate rises in pay.

More than 100,000 employees are affected. The increase was obtained by the Clerical and Administrative Workers Union.

TRANSPORT SERVICES PAYMENT IN a statement at a recent general meeting, Mr. F. B. Proctor, liquidator of Transport Services, Ltd., said that the consider_tion for the sale of the company's assets to the British Transport Commission had now been agreed. It showed a surplus of £2,045,121 over the book values recorded in the company's accounts as at December 31, 1947.

LIVERPOOL HIRING RATES

HAVING considered tenders for hired haulage during the six months ending June 30, 1951, Liverpool Highways Committee has decided that no contracts be placed initially for vehicles offered at a rate of over £3 5s. a day. Any additional vehicles required will be obtained in strict order from those offered at up to £3 10s. a day.
