Mr. G. A. Green, late of the L.G.O. Co.; and at present chief engineer to the Brussels General Omnibus Co., has been offered, and has accepted an appointment as chief engineer to the Ex press Motor Cab Co. of London. lie will assume his new duties early in the new year.

The Court of Appeal has decided that a new trial must be held in the case of Nicholson v. The Provincial Motor Cab Co., Ltd. The result of the original action, which was tried before Mr. Justice Grantham and a special jury at Newcastle, was that the plaintiff was awarded damages to the extent of £3,000. The application for a new trial was based on the ground that the learned judge misdirected the jury and that the damages were excessive.

The Incredulous "Mail."

" The Daily Mail " is still perturbed as to the possible inaccuracy of the mechanism of the taximeter. One of its staff recently undertook a series of tests of taximeters, fitted to cabs belonging to several of the principal London companies, over a route which was stated to be " about 3.'1 miles long." " The Daily Mail " discovered that all the instruments were accurate, so that the National Physical Laboratory at Teddington may now rightly feel that its labours have received confirmation from people who know all about it. The excuse offered by the Harmsworth journal for the -undertaking at this late date of these tests, was that a large number of complaints had been received, from readers, of the supposed inaccuracy of taximeters in London. " The Grey Cara."

The Leeds MOtorcab and Delivery Co., Ltd., whose garage is at Primitive Street, Leeds, has sent specimens of two attractively-designed little

showcards, which are intended to advertise the taxicabs and private cars which this company lets on hire. The cabs in question are uniformly painted in grey, and use is made of this fact by the Leeds company to advertise their machines as " The Grey Cars."

At Brighton.

" London by the Sea," for its size and population, is not a whit behind the capital itself in such matters as the smartness and the variety of its taxicabs. Four-cylinder machines are general, and some of them are of considerable horse-power. They are also kept in very-smart condition. The '25 h.p. Siddeleys, 12-1.4 h.p. Unties, and 14-16 h.p. Darracqs predominate, but Humbers, Napiers, Belsize, Gladiators, and Standard taxi-landaulets are also to be found, while quite the latest is a beautifully-finished 1.5 h.p. SilentKnight Daimler taxi, which is attracting much attention. Is. a mile, with 3d. for each succeding quarter-of-amile, is the fare in vogue, and some owners admit that it is possible to average 8d., in spite of a good deal of dead mileage.

Points for Taxi Drivers.

With characteristic enterprise, W. and G. Du Crag, Ltd.,. has issued for the benefit of its many drivers a small book, full of useful hints as to the care of the machines of which they are in charge. The vehicles awned by this company are specified as types A, B and C respectively. The booklet is divided into a series of sections, which deal in turn with the engine, carburetter, magneto ignition, water circulation, lubrication, clutches, gear, brakes and tires. In each of these divisions special care is taken to indicate to the driver the causes from which failures may arise. It is perhaps hardly surprising to find that considerable space is given to an explanation of the manner in which tires should be cared for. We are sorry tosee, however, that the editors of this little book have not yet realized the correct way to spell tile! This publication is but another evidence of the care which Messrs. W. and G. Du Ores take to retain the good class of driver which they have secured.
