Pete Murphy has been named as the successor to Isuzu Truck (UK) MD Nikki King when she retires in October.
Murphy joined the firm in 1998 as a fleet sales executive and heads the national fleet division. He told CM he was terrified at the prospect of filling King's shoes, but said he will bring continuity to the business.
"The culture we have is special; it's an incredible place to work, the atmosphere is fantastic, so I want to continue that culture," he said. "The one reassuring thing for me, in terms of stepping into this new role, is that we have a team of incredible people, who are exceptional at what they do." Murphy described King as his mentor and
an icon in the industry: "She's amazing and during the most torrid economic climate we've seen, she steered Isuzu through some troubled waters." Asked what the challenges are for Isuzu
over the next 12 months, he said: "The whole industry has got some challenges to face: the usual sales cycle has been hugely interrupted by the integration of the new Euro-6 product for all manufacturers. And then we have whole vehicle type approval coming at us next year; [these are] going to be interesting times."
King said: "I am absolutely delighted with Pete's appointment and cannot think of anyone better to expand the company and keep its very special culture. In the time leading up to my retirement, and subsequently in my new role as honorary chairman, I will do everything I can to help Pete in his new position."
