Optimism levels surged to their highest level for some time as the score reached 65. Of the respondents, 82% were either very optimistic or fairly optimistic about their firm's prospects over the next year, while 17% were either not very optimistic or not at all optimistic

Own-account operators were the most positive in August, and marginally more positive than they were in July: their optimistic/not optimistic split improved from 85/15 to 85/14. Hire or reward hauliers were more positive than they were in July: their split improved from 72/25 to 80/20. Logistics and contract distribution firms were more positive in August than the previous month as their split improved from 74/27 to 78/22.
