• Another long-standing transport firm is shutting its doors, blaming the state of the Industry for its closure.

John Cox Transport, of Cannock, Staffs, has been in business for 30 years but now boss John Cox has decided to get out of the industry.

"I'm just fed up with the whole thing," he says. It's too much hassle for your money, it's a hassle finding drivers and all the jobs are a pain. You get timed deliveries where they keep you waiting for six hours and then it's a fight to get them to pay you waiting time."

The firm, which started out with just one truck, was working on general haulage having abandoned brick and block work due to poor rates. The firm's seven tractive units, four curtain-sided rigids, five flat rigids and 18 trailers will be sold off through auctioneers Malcolm Harrison.

Cox adds: "We have one or two big customers, but they are one of the reasons why I'm closing. There's just no loyalty anymore."
