• John Mills, one of the north London drivers serving seven-and-a-half years in a Bulgarian prison for drug smuggling, has had a date set for his second appeal.

He is to appear on 18 November at Bulgaria's Supreme Court in an effort to get the conviction overturned.

Mills and his partner Peter Hobbs have been in prison since June lust year after 20.5kg of heroin was found by Bulgarian customs on their trailer The men have protested their innocence throughout.

An appeal in April was turned down by a Bulgarian judge even though both men's lawyers presented new evidence (CM 18-24 April). No date has been set for Hobbs' appeal.
