• The Northern LA. Mr. J. A. T. Hanlon, gave a severe warning to a Sunderland haulage contractor last week after hearing how he operated a lorry belonging to another firm.
He granted Mr. Frank Bogie his application to acquire a lorry and its B licence from a scrap-metal merchant. Mr. J. Ainslie, of South Shields.
Mr. Ainslie told the LA, in Newcastle upon Tyne, that he and Mr. Bogie had previously come to an arrangement whereby Mr. Bogie operated the vehicle on his behalf.
Mr. Ainslie said he was now giving up haulage to concentrate on the scrap business. He did not know much about the haulage business, he said, but he now knew the arrangements had not been right.
The LA, after giving the warning, said investigations were taking place concerning the lorry's operation and its records.
