• Mr. D. Clemetson was given a stern warning that he must co-operate with Ministry of Transport officials when they needed to inspect his records by Mr. J. A. T. Hanlon, the Northern LA, at Cockermouth, Cumberland, on Monday. The application for a B licence for two vehicles was heard under S.174.
The LA said the original proceedings had been adjourned in Carlisle in June so that Mr. Clemetson, of Blindcrake, could produce monthly figures of his earnings for the previous 12 months and his maintenance accounts.
Mr. Clemetson brought accounts covering the period 1965 to 1967 but said that his accountants had not had time to prepare the 1968 figures.
Asked why Ministry examiners had been unable to inspect his records, Mr. Clemetson said: "1 thinklwas away at the time."
Mr. Percy Cooper, a traffic examiner for the Northern area, said he would like to know when and how he could inspect Mr. Clemetson's records and also requested the name and address of the driver employed by him.
The LA warned the applicant: "The Ministry are reluctant to prosecute but they have no alternative if you do not make your records available." He pointed out that Mr. Clemetson would have to apply for an operator's licence in February and commented: "I must warn you what will happen if your affairs are not satisfactory."
He also advised Mr. Clemetson to ensure that his vehicles were inspected regularly and to keep records of his maintenance work. "Do not wait until things start dropping off your lorries," he said.
