An economic stranglehold on Serbia and its ally Montenegro, announced on Monday, means trucks will no longer be able to cross the former Yugoslavia without authorisation from the United Nations to deliver essential goods.

Instead they will have to travel via ferry from Italy, which is more expensive, or travel via Hungary and Romania, which involves several border crossings.

Few operators have used Yugoslavia since the conflict began because their insurance is invalid in war zones.
