FIGURES which showed that gross I turnover had been increased by £.17,000 during 1959-60 impressed Mr. W. F. Quin, Scottish Licensing Authority, when D. M. Smith (Transport), Ltd., made ' a successful A-licence variation application at Glasgow last week.

Numerous witnesses, including representatives of Telcon Magnetic Cores, Ltd., Chapelhill, the Lanarkshire Bolt Co., Ltd., and a Barrhead bath-manufacturing concern, supported the application, Objection was registered by the British Transport Commission, and Mr. A. Beattie, for them, who spoke of express rail services from Mossend to the Midlands, claimed that a grant would cause abstraction. .
