A Promising Start in South-west Districts of the County Palatine.
nrillE fares charged by motor coaCh owners for road trips during the Easter holidays usually provide an indication of the rates-which are likely to rule duringthe ensuing season. The holiday bookings in the Liverpool and Manchester districts this year were much. better than was thought would be the ease, and there can be no gainsaying that the fine weather provided a good inducement for the public to take to the open road. Long-distance tours of 120
miles or more only received fair attention, but shorter runs up to 100 miles, which allowed, for a stay of reasonable length at popular resorts like Southport, Chester and Blackpool, proved to be most popular.
Messrs. Fleet Motors, of Manchester, have now inaugurated their daily services to Blackpool for the season, the fares being 5s. single, 7s. return and 8s. 6d. long-distance return. The mileage is 92. This company are also
eperating a regular afternoon service to Buxton and Rudyard Lake.' 'It is intended to organize a series of tours to the Wembley Exhibition.
The daily services from Liverpool to Blackpool (the distance is also 92 miles from the Mersey city) operated by CoIlingwood Motors (Liverpool), Ltd., have also been inaugurated, and will be continued without interruption until September 30th. The fares for this journey are :—Single, 6s. 6d.; day return, 7s. 6d. ; long-date return, 9s.
For the purpose of comparison the following schedules of fares, as charged by Manchester and Liverpool owners, may be found interesting From these charges it will be seen that substantial concessions have been made in order to attract the long-distance road traveller.
