• The licence held by D & W International, of Ongar, authorising 10 vehicles and trailers, has been revoked by Metropolitan Licensing Authority Air Vice Marshal Ronald Ashford. The LA has also disqualified the company's principal director, David Parrish, from holding a licence for five years.

The LA heard that Parrish was convicted in November 1988 at Chelmsford Crown Court of an offence relating tr an insurance claim for repairs to a vehicle which had never been damaged.

The company's predecesso: D & W Transport (International), owned by Parrish and his wife, had four convictions for operating vehicles without excise licenses. There was also evidence that many of the present company's vehicles h; not been taxed for some time and that they had been regularly used.

Other people had used Italian and Spanish intematior haulage permits which had been issued to the company. Owner-driver David Gane sal Parrish had provided permits for 15 journeys to Italy and Spain for his vehicle.

Parrish said he was too sic to attend the public inquiry, t maintained in a telex to the Traffic Area that the intentiol was to sub-contract extra wo the company had gained, though in the end he had not acted on any of the queries received. He also claimed there was a conspiracy again: him in relation to the use of international journey permits. He said his conviction for forgery was purely a technicz matter which was the subject of current arbitration.

Revoking the licence, and disqualifying Parrish, Licensit Authority Air Vice Marshal Ashford said that as the company had been without a qualified transport manager since 1 January, it no longer met the professional competence requirement. MI Parrish had clearly demonstrated that he was tic fit to hold a licence.
