DAF IS widening its Britishi coach range for next year by adding mid and rear-engined vehicles.

The company announced this week that the MB200 DKTL mid-engined chassis with 251 bhp turbocharged 11.6-litre engine will be available in addition to the M8200 DKL naturally aspirated model.

It expects to have 85 midengined chassis available in Britain, with bodies by Plaxton and Van Hool, and may have a demonstration model at November's Scottish Motor Show.

It is also bringing 25 rearengined SB2000 DHU chassis to Britain, and these too will be bodied by Plaxton or Van Hool.

The SB2000 has a 230 bhp, vertical 8.25-litre chargecooled engine and a six-speed synchromesh gearbox. DAF claims it is less expensive to build than the MB200, and that it will cost around £1,000 less than the MB200.

More details of DAF's 1980 coach activities will appear in next week's CM.
