HEAVIER vehicles can save up to 20 per cent fuel when fitted with a new ZF eightspeed Ecosplit gearbox, it is claimed.
A built-in splitter gives a total of 16 forward ratios with eight synchromesh or constant-mesh gearing to match engine speed better to road conditions.
The eight-speed box and splitter will give about a 300 rpm step between ratios to allow the engine speed to be kept within the most efficient rev band.
