inquiry A FIFE BUS operator was warned that she would have to comply with conditions laid down by the Traffic Commissioners if her licence was not to be revoked or suspended.

Mrs M. Bruce of St Andrews, appeared before the Commissioners after a minibus for which she holds a psv licence was found to have several mechanical defects.

Vehicle examiner Peter Thomson said he had inspected the minibus in June. He found ten faults, most serious of which involved the braking system on the rear axle.

After talking to Mrs Bruce, he discovered the only record of inspections she had were three sheets she had filled in herself. Mr Thomson did not feel she was capable of carrying out a proper inspection.

Leniency exercised

The Commissioners' unanimous decision was that Mrs Bruce had failed to fulfil the undertakings she gave when applying for a psv licence, but they felt they could exercise some leniency in this case.

The Commissioners insisted that Mrs Bruce obtain a written undertaking from the garage that her vehicle would be inspected every month or 3000 miles, whichever came first. She must also undertake an approved inspection sheet would be filled in every month. If these conditions were met, the Commissioners would take no action.
