CPT elects new• president NEWLY-ELECTED president for 1980 of the Confederation of British Road Passenger Transport (CPT) is Ian Irwin, chairman of the Scottish Bus Group and managing director of the Scottish Transport Group. He succeeds Ian Cunningham, general manager of Bournemouth Transport.

Rodney Hawkins is moving to the position of regional chief engineer for NBC's South-East region. He is presently chief engineer and assistant general manager of Alder Valley.

Mr Hawkins started his career in the bus industry in 1964 when he joined Trent Motor Traction as a technical assistant. In 1966 he became assistant engineer at Yorkshire Traction before holding the position of deputy chief engineer at Bristol Omnibus and subsequently Midland Red.

Charles Graham has been named as the new general manager for the Southern British Road Services' North London Freight Centre in Kentish Town.

Mr Graham joins Southern BRS from WBS Transport and in his new position has overall responsibility for the freight centre. More than E1/2m is to be spent on the seven-acre site, which includes the distribution service, contract hire, vehicle rental and maintenance.

Another National Freight Corporation company, Roadline, has appointed a new regional director. He is Alan Jones who takes over the London region after previously being Roadline's director for the smaller Midlands region. Mr Jones, who at 32 is one of the youngest NFC directors, joined the corporation five years ago as a finance manager.

Taking up a new appointment with Storeway on Monday will be Brian Hurst, pre viously of Reigate Warehouses. He moves to Storeway as director of operations.

Leyland Nigeria has named Peter Quick as its new managing director.

Mr Quick is currently managing director of SelfChanging Gears, part of BL Commercial Vehicles. He takes up his new post in Nigeria next month, succeeding Richard Morley who leaves after completing his three-year contract. Leyland Nigeria is jointly owned by the Nigerian Government (35 per cent), Nigerian State government and investors (25 per cent) and Leyland (40 per cent).

Neil Townend, director of operations at Greater Glasgow PTE, is moving to become director of public transport at Tayside Regional Council.

He was previously with Lothian Regional Council and began his career with the BET Federation. At Tayside he succeeds Alan Westwell who becomes Greater Glasgow PTE's director-general on November 1.

National Bus Company subsidiary Ribble Motor Services has a new general manager. Ian Chapman moves to Ribble from West Riding Automobile Co where he is also general manager, a post he has held since 1976. Mr Chapman succeeds Fred Dark, who has become regional executive for NBC's South-East region.

Denis Flower has been appointed by the National Bus Company as group personnel officer. Mr Flower entered the bus industry in 1957 as a management trainee with Southdown and has since held a number of operating positions, including traffic manager of Aldershot and District Traction and then commercial manager of NBC's Southern Region. Since 1976 he has been seconded to the British Transport Staff College in .Woking as director of studies.

Bill Chappell has become manager of Ford and Slater's Coventry depot. Mr Chappell has only recently returned to this country from Ghana where he was with Ford and Slater's parent company UAC Motors.

Hal Wilson has been promoted by Goodyear Tyre and Rubber to the post of general products director. Mr Wilson joined Goodyear at the parent company headquarters in Akron, Ohio in 1964 and since then has served at variow locations. For the last fou! years he has been president o Goodyear Taiwan.

Retiring at the end o October as commercia manager of National Trave (South West) is John Purves.

Mr Purves joined Black an( White Motorways in Chelten ham in 1951, becoming traffic manager and then operation: manager of National Trave (South West).
