GRIFFITHS FOR FIELD SALES
David Griffiths has joined Renault VI's used trucks team as field sales manager. He'll be aiming to help dealers countrywide buy and sell used commercial vehicles profitably. Before joining RVI Griffiths worked for Iveco's used vehicle business unit for 18 months, and before that worked for an Iveco dealer for nine years. "I think the opportunities with Renault are great," he says. "The products are good, and the potential is terrific."
IMPORTED BARGAINS The saving might not be quite as enormous as it was at the start of this year, but hauliers can still be /10,000 better off if they buy a grey import tractor unit. So claims Simon Hall of Oxfordshire import specialist Kel-Berg. Increasingly his customers—who are often on international work—are looking at the savings they can achieve by flagging out. As well as lower Vehicle Excise Duty, the savings include cheaper insurance achieved by buying cover in another European country. "Hauliers can cut premiums by thousands of pounds," he says.
Volvos and Scanias still tend to be Kel-Berg's best-sellers, and buyers keep demanding more power. "Two years ago 400hp to 420hp was sufficient, but we're now selling quite a few at 46011p and 530hp," he reports. The financial saving which can be achieved by acquiring a specially imported truck isn't the only advantage, he adds. "UK dealers are quoting long delivery times, but we can deliver immediately."
