• A Dutch haulier has been fined £1,500 at Eastleigh magistrates court for overloading a four-axle Volvo drawbar rig by more than 10 tonnes.

GM de Rooy of Eindhoven &, ZN International pleaded guilty to four charges. The court heard that the unit's drive axle was overloaded by 3,240kg; the prime mover was overloaded by 4,600kg; the trailer bogie was overloaded by 5,800kg; and the overall length of the rig was 20.65m. The outfit's maximum permitted weight was exceeded by 10,500kg.

Two of the Daf tractive units being carried had to be unloaded before the overall weight was reduced enough for the vehicle to complete its journey.

• In May 1998 de Reoy's Ilk division, Edcrest, had its Operator's Licences revoked by South-East and North-West Traffic Commissioners. TC Michael Turner took the unusual step of writing to the Department of Transport to express his concern at the continued activities of the de Rooy brothers.
