A radar device being developed by the German firm Siemens could improve your chances of surviving a collision. Sensors mounted in the bumpers and doors can detect the distance and velocity of objects within a 20m radius via a 24-gigahertz radar. If an impact is imminent the system can take appropriate action such as tightening the seat-belt retractor or adjusting the headrest to a crash position. A good idea, as long as people still use the natural sensors mounted in their eyes and ears.
