Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Ruth Holding,

Vehicle Inspectorate.

U The whole point of the article was to reveal that the VI management had failed to take Travellers Coaches to a public inquiry at a time when some VI staff believed its drivers were breaking hours rules and had called for a PI--Ed.

evidence to proceed with a prosecution against the company for failing to produce tachograph charts. The TC's office was advised that investigations were continuing.

A full review of the case file has confirmed that all of the advice given to the TC's office by Bob Lintern was entirely appropriate and wholly in line with VI policy and procedures.

The Inspectorate is extremely disappointed by the misrepresentation of the facts of the case as set out in the above-mentioned article. An important part of an earlier statement provided by the Inspectorate (CMI4-20 Oct) was omitted and consequently the statement did not reflect the fact that at the time of the investigation all parties were of the view that there was ultimately insufficient evidence to pursue the case.

This was not, as your article implied, a decision taken by Bob Lintern in isolation, but one taken after full consideration of all the facts available to all parties at the time. To suggest otherwise is both unreasonable and unfair.
