Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Mercedes-Benz has released details of its much-talked-about entry into the small van market.

The new Vaneo will be launched in the UK towards the end of 2001 and plug a gap in the Mercedes-Benz range.

Measuring 4.19m long, 1.74m wide and 1.83m in height, the Vaneo is roughly midway between a Being° and Dispatch in size. The people carrier version gives nearly three cubic metres of cargo space when seating two adults, says Mercedes. This gives a good idea of the van's capacity. It will have two sliding doors. No details on weight-carrying capacity, engine options or prices have yet been released, but director of vans for DaimlerChrysler, Dr Rolf Bartke, says: "With the Mercedes-Benz Vaneo, we're defining the compact van class. Its versatility and incomparably large cargo space are setting new standards: Sales targets of 50,000 a year are set for Western Europe.

Rivals are likely to include the Berhngo/Partner van, a Focus-based van from Ford and Renault's Kangoo—soon available with two sliding doors.
