The Minister of Transport has appointed L. Harbinson as a member of the Transport Jsers Consultative Committee for the North Vestern area, J. H. Hall, for 19 years trade sales manager, notor accessory division, Smiths Industries Id., has retired after 46 years' service with the :ompany. He joined Smiths in 1920 as a clerk at he then Great Portland Street, London, depot. rwo years later he became a salesman. During he war years he was based at Cricklewood as amply manager. In 1947 he was appointed trade ;ales manager.
One of the North Western Traffic Commissioners, ClIr. A. Allen, has retired after service under three chairmen. A deputy Commissioner from 1954, he became a Commissioner in 1963 and is now 76 years of age. CHI-. Allen is a former chairman of the Stalyhridge. Hyde, Mossley and Dukinfield Transport Board and was chairman of the transport committee for many years.
E. R. Hutchings, formerly traffic superintendent, southern area, has been appointed assistant to the London area manager, BRS Parcels Ltd. Mr. Hutchings, who commenced his transport career with Bouts-Tillotsons in 1936, was appointed chairman of the southern section of the Institute of Transport in April. He is a member of the Institute Council and serves on the examination committee.
K. Jackson, the national officer of the commercial services group of the Transport and General Workers' Union, has been appointed national secretary of the group in succession to A. G. Beck, who is retiring at the end of the year.
Sir Alec Ogilvie has been appointed a director of Powell Duffryn Ltd. Sir Alec is a former managing director and chairman of Andrew Yule and Co. Ltd., of Calcutta, and a former president of the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry and of the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India.
W. McLean has been appointed a member of the Transport Users Consultative Committee for Scotland.
P. F. Thorpe has joined the board of Wellworthy Ltd. (the Associated Engineering Group) as an executive director with responsibilities for training and industrial relations. Metropolitan-Cammell-Weymann Ltd. has appointed Tom McConnell as chief engineer responsible for design, research and development. Mr. McConnell. 46, began his career with an apprenticeship in HM Dockyards at Plymouth and Sheerness. He served in the REME during the war, rising to the rank of Lieut.-Colonel. In 1962 he joined the Rover Co. Ltd., as engineering operation manager.
L. J. Bartrick, general manager, commercial vehicle division, and G. P. L. Liddell, general sales manager, retail cars, have been appointed to the board of Stewart and Ardern Ltd. Mr. Bartrick is now director, commercial vehicle division.
Perkins Engines Inc., an American company forming part of the international Perkins Engines Group, has appointed William D. Winemaster vice-president, marketing. Other appointments: R. C. Five past presidents of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers have been made Fellows. They are Sir William Black, R. Gresham Cooke, E. B. H. Elsbury, G. MacKenzie Junner and S. E. Pepler.
