EMPLOYEES of the Wolverhampton Transport Department on Tuesday accepted the council's offer of 10s. a week increase in pay: At a meeting earlier in the day, they rejected a call to cease work because their application for higher wages had been referred to the National Joint Industrial Council.
The offer, which is subject to the approval of the Nile., is based I on plain-time rates for 7 hr. 20 min. in respect of a 6 hr. 50 min. schedule.
Mr. J. E. Cooney, local branch secretary of the Transport .and General Workers' Union, said the men still regarded it as unnecessary for the award to be submitted to the for approval. It etiuld have been dealt with locally under an existing local agreement. he •said.
When the increase had been confirmed by the N.J.I.C., the Union would • continue to negotiate for the -remainder of the .£1 a week rise originally sought.

SHEFFIELD COACHES CONTINUE
EIGHT hundred Sheffield Corporation 1—, transport workers decided last Sunday to take no immediate action concerning the use of private-hire coaches on service routes during peak periods, although resentment was expressed. The National Joint Industrial Council meets on November 10, when both wages and coach operation will be dealt with.
