Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A MUCH improved version of the hornycroft Sturdy 5 6tonner, which has been in production for the past 13 years, is now released. It is known as the Sturdy Star and has a Thorn ycroft six-cylindered 4.18-litre direct-injection oil engine, which, with the gearbox, is flexibly mounted in the chassis. The engine has an output of 61.5 b.h.p. at 2,000 r.p.m. and gives a torque of 174 lb-ft. at 1,300 r.p.m.

A refinement is to be noted in the draught-proof sub-assembly of clutch, brake and accelerator pedals.

Other features include a hypoid rear axle, progressive rear springs, vacuumservo hydraulic brakes of the twoleading-shoe type, and a 9f-in.-deep frame, with cross-members bolted in position.

The Sturdy Star chassis is available in three lengths of wheelbase. The 13-ft. 6-in. version will be seen at the Scottish Motor Show. The standard tyre equipment is 34 ins. by 7 ins.

The Trident, which was first shown at Earls Court last year, but has been delayed in production, will also appear in Scotland. It is designed to meet the demand for a goods vehicle having a gross laden weight not exceeding 12 tons, and has the maker's CR/6 six

cylindered 5.51-litre direct-injection oil engine, which develops 78 b.h.p. at 1,800 r.p.m. The maximum torque is 228 lb.-ft. at 1,400 r.p.m.

Whilst closely following the Sturdy Star design, the Trident has a 14-in.-diameter singleplate clutch, which takes the drive to the four-speed gearbox, and hypoid axle, the final-drive ratio being 5.43 to 1.

Special attention has been devoted to The system of (*lb mounting, which is in the form of a base comprising foot plates, bonnet and radiator cowling. The base is mounted ,on the chassis by means of four Silentbloc bushes. The cab and base can be readily lifted when once the four points are disconnected. Cab removal is simplified by the use of a single socket for the electrical equipment.
