RI KEEDWELL Group has placed its first major order with Mercedes-Benz, opting for 100 Euro-5 Actros units as part of its fleet renewal programme.
Group commercial director Jon White said that with the business continuing maintenance in-house at its nine garages, it had adopted a "one manufacturer" policy. He said the complexity of modern truck technology meant running a multimarque fleet was no longer manageable. Keedwell has 500 vehicles and 1,200 trailers, traditionally running a mix of MAN, Renault, Scania, and Daf.
Close to 70 of the BigSpace models have been delivered by Avonmouth dealer City West Commercials. The purchase was made following a successful trial of eight old-shape Actros units, which posted returns of 8.4mpg.
RI Keedwell will also be taking a Euro-6 Actros. "We had to place an order and, given the timing, Euro-5 was the best option," said White. "We are not afraid of Euro-6 though."
RI Keedwell recently bought RJ Jones Group (CM 21 November).
