Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Transport Minister David Jamieson has promised to look Into the grants enjoyed by Spanish fleet operators who invest in telematics systems to see if the UK government should be giving British hauliers the same level of support ( CM31 Oct-6 Nov).

Speaking at the recent Urban Delivery and Alternative Fuels Conference organised by CM'S sister title Motor Transport, Jamieson said he felt the use of telematics systems was an important factor in helping to make better use of Britain's road infrastructure and the government was actively encouraging UK transport fleets to invest in it.

In response to a question from the floor, he said he hadn't been aware Spanish hauliers could get telematics investments subsidised but he immediately promised to investigate this idea, And he agreed that greater investment in such systems would be bound to promote the government's own aims of reducing congestion and fuel consumption and encouraging better use or vehicles, "I do accept that," he sad.

IP Jamieson also revealed that the DoT is about to publish an impartial guide to telematics systems that will review existing technology and identify the benefits of different applications, advising operators on which type of system Is best to optimise fleet use, reduce mileage and increase efficiency. The guide can be ordered via the TransportEnergy web site at www.transportenergy.org.uk.
