• The threat of a major upheaval to drivers' hours seems to be receding following the redrafting of EC proposals on a working time directive (CM 20-26 June).
Earlier this year the European Commission proposed an 11hour maximum working day with minimum weekly rest periods which the FTA called a "nightmare".
But now it is believed that a revised draft directive, including a blanket exemption for transport, will soon go before the Council of Ministers.
